Forty-two kilometres from the nearest tarmac road, in Moroto District, we set up our mobile solar clinic on a Tuesday morning in March. By noon, we had seen 67 patients — many of whom had never had a physical examination by a trained medical professional.
Our solar clinic fleet is equipped with diagnostic equipment powered by portable solar panels: digital stethoscopes, portable ultrasound, rapid diagnostic kits, and a satellite-connected telemedicine terminal that allows real-time specialist consultations from any location.
The Numbers So Far
In our first year of rural outreach, we reached 47 communities across Northern Uganda, serving 12,400 patients. We identified 340 cases requiring specialist referral and connected them with Radius Health doctors via telemedicine. We vaccinated 3,200 children and conducted 890 maternal health screenings.
